Energy levels are often misdiagnosed. Some professionals might claim your sluggishness is due to diet, fatigue, or depression. But, in actuality, there might just be a hormonal imbalance occurring.
In particular, your adrenal glands and your thyroid secrete hormones you need for energy.
Adrenal glands secrete several hormones. One of the most notable is cortisol. It’s your body’s primary stress hormone. Adrenal fatigue (a term we commonly hear thrown around) is when there’s an imbalance in your cortisol levels.
This imbalance may be the result of a myriad things, like: consuming too much caffeine or just plain old stress.
Our bodies, then, deal with that by producing high levels of cortisol — to the point at which it becomes imbalanced.
When your cortisol should be high, it’s low, and when it should be low, it’s high — making it really difficult to get up in the morning.
If you’re experiencing problems with your thyroid, you might be experiencing:
- Chronic fatigue
- Hands and feet are always cold
- Sleep deprivation (even when you’re getting more than you need)
Thyroid issues might also show up in the form of:
- Gut problems (e.g., constipation)
- Body feels off
- Hair loss
- Dry skin
- Brain fog
All of these things tend to make you feel bummed out. Couple that with the fact your energy is really low… the next thing you know, you’re not exercising as often. Now you’re thinking,
“Well, the reason I’m having these feelings is because I’ve gained weight!”
What’s really going on, though, is you’ve got a hormone imbalance that led to the lack of energy, which led to less exercise, which led to you feeling bad about yourself, which led to you making poor food choices.
Are you noticing how this can all compound on itself?
So, instead of just thinking that the problem is in your head and that you simply need more motivation, I really want you to take a look at some of these signs and symptoms I’m sharing with you and ask yourself if, in fact, there may be a hormone imbalance going on. Okay?
