How to Spend Less Time on Instagram But Still Grow Your Account

share this:

Today, I’d like to break down an experiment my son, Brock, recently performed on his Instagram. A test, if you will. His mission was to spend as little time as possible on the platform — while maintaining the same consistency —  yet still grow his account.

An Experiment to Spend Less Time On Instagram Maintain Consistency Still Grow Account

Before the experiment.

In the past, Brock would spend about 3 1/2 hours every single day on Instagram. Not all of which was aimed toward business and brand growth. There was, of course, mindless scrolling sprinkled in.

Also, it’s important to note his prior level of consistency:

  • 1 to 2 reels every single day
  • 10 or more stories, daily
  • 1 additional feed post (still image, carousel, etc.), daily

So, that’s certainly a strong showing and, not to mention, what we teach in our InstaClubHub.

The point is, for him to maintain the same level of consistency and growth (which is already quite significant) WHILE spending less than an hour a day on Instagram (his lofty goal)… would definitely be a challenge.

His plan.

Step 1: Outsource.

Now, Brock receives thousands of messages every day. For him, outsourcing and bringing on a Virtual Assistant was crucial.

However, you might not feel you need to go down that road at this time. And that’s okay. That said, Brock found it totally necessary — to ensure his lifers were taken care of.

I’d like to point out, though, that you, too, would totally benefit from hiring a VA to help with your Instagram life.

From creating graphics to liking comments to responding to DMs.

If you brought someone on your team for just 5 hours a week… imagine how much extra time you could dedicate to growing your account.

Spend Less Time on Social Media and Still Grow Your Account By Hiring a Virtual Assistant

Step 2: Chunk record.

Brock decided to record all of his Reels in about a one-hour sitting. And then edit them in as little as 5 to 10 minutes a day. If you’re not familiar with the idea of chunking or batch-recording, check out this recent blog.

Step 3: Back to outsourcing.

Brock would have his designer create carousels, for example, ahead of time. Therefore, he only had to spend a few minutes writing up the content that would go on said carousels.

Step 4: Repeat.

If you’re sincerely looking to spend less time on Instagram, it might make sense for you to look into hiring a Virtual Assistant — for whatever tasks you might need! Designing, editing, graphics, commenting, writing captions, liking photos (within your niche), etc.

Oftentimes, you can hire designers who will create graphics for as little as $5 to $10, per post. And if that is something that would take you at least an hour to create, now you’ve outsourced it for a super low rate.

Isn’t your time far more valuable than $5/hour?

To reiterate Brock’s main strategy:

  • outsourcing and hiring help (absolutely crucial if you want to free up your time and energy to spend elsewhere)
  • planning ahead (whether that’s chunking content, batch-producing content, writing content ahead of time, recording stories)

So, how did the test/experiment pan out?!
