Is Botox Safe (For Your Medical and Psychological Health)?

share this:

Many women, including me, struggle with the idea of Botox, fillers, and injectables. In other words, rejuvenating (some part of) our appearance. Pondering big questions, like:

If I use Botox, does it mean I’m shallow or fake or that I think something’s wrong with me?

Is Botox Safe For Psychological Health

So, how does one come to grips with this sort of self-talk?

Well, I recently asked my friend and facial plastic expert / physician, Kay Durairaj, MD, this question. Her response…

You can be a woman of substance, character and intelligence, AND want to look good, feel good and present the best version of yourself to the world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with maintaining our face — which is our identity.

I have three daughters, and I don’t want them to grow up with a warped, twisted sense of beauty. But I do tell them, “You need to maintain. You can’t have a car for 80 years and not put maintenance into it and expect it to run right, look right, and just be right.”

By the same standards, your face is going to go through these natural changes of fat pads deflating, atrophying, changing. But if you don’t maintain, you lose your sense of identity. There can be a time in your life when you look in the mirror and think, “I don’t look like myself anymore.” I hear that message from women so often.

Botox Helps With Image Issues When Looking In The Mirror

In our brains, we have this version of our prototype avatar of ourselves. And we need to… at least, strive to be like that. When you give up and you don’t care how you look anymore, that’s, to me, the saddest thing.

Now, I have super exciting news for you. I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Dr. Kay this week on The Chalene Show!

This MUST-LISTEN episode was inspired by topics YOU raised with me in social media, like: the stigmas around changing / enhancing one’s appearance, finding the right MD, which procedure to start with, how safe are injectables — and everything in between!

Check it out here:

Also, because I know you want to know and I’m always super transparent with you… I just had a few procedures done with the good doc. And I’m in love with the results!

  1. I don’t know which is which, but I prefer the picture on the left. Is that the after or before? You definitely look more natural and younger on the left, cutesy even. Well, I hope that’s the after picture.
