Social media is truly your friend when growing a business. We’ve discussed being a constant presence on social media to build a following, so now we just need to think about your market. How do you find your ideal customers? We want to blast your target market with fabulous updates that are meaningful to them. But first, you have to be sure you know who they are. Here’s how to use social media, specifically, Twitter, to find your ideal customers.
Make a list
Do you have a regionally specific business? If so, how far are people willing to travel for your services? This will help determine a specific range of customers. If I have a dog grooming salon in Los Angeles, California, friends in Kansas aren’t bringing their poodles to LA for fluffing and trimming. It’s just not going to happen. So, we need to focus your canine creativity and social media campaign on your region.
But, if your business is based on the Internet and you have products or services that can ship anywhere, it doesn’t matter if your clients are in Dallas or Dubai.
Think about your customers. What is their gender? Age? What do they have in common? What are they thinking about? Write everything down about your prospective customer that you can. Imagine the customer in your mind, what kinds of things does he or she worry about? What consumes his time? What might she like to do on the weekends?
Knowing your customer base well helps you narrow down your searches, as well as construct your updates. Everything you say online should be relevant and focused to these prospective customers.
Once you have made a specific list of your target market, you are going to determine a way to appeal to them and how reach them.
Tweetdeck is a fabulous resource for to weed though prospects. You can sort by location, topics, or even by profile. Friend everyone you can in hopes that they will friend you back! And once they like you on Twitter they will LOVE you on Facebook!
